CBS BB15 Episode 4 recap: Addressing #Racism and #Homophobia

big brother 15 racism and homophobia

Hey everyone it is your favorite episode recapper (is that even a word? :p) SHANNON! lol At first I will be honest I was not looking forward to this episode at all and was likely thinking someone else was going to be writing about this because I was thinking, why CBS why would you allow this cheating (if it happened) and to allow it from Aaryn of all people just made it all that much more worse. But about mid way through the episode that I was reluctantly watching, I became pleasantly surprised and my faith restore in Big Brother and CBS. (Which I will explain shortly)

So the episode begins with the HoH competition that was at the end of Wednesday’s episode and as I saw on Twitter since I don’t have the feeds, Aaryn and Jeremy did indeed win the HoH competition. At this point in the episode I was rolling my eyes and sitting in my room incredibly annoyed, good thing I had my cat laying next to me to keep me sane lol And then Jeremy and Aaryn decide to given Aaryn the HoH title and next she gets to choose the four Have-Nots for the week. Which four did she choose… hmm? I wonder.. Yup, she chose Elissa, Helen, Andy, and Candice. SHOCKER! Except well not really, what more could we expect from the biggest racist/homophobe in the house? However, in addition to slop the Have-Nots get to enjoy Liver and Lima Beans thanks to America. I think it is safe to say that we may have voted differently had we known who was going to be HoH and picking the Have-Nots. Just saying.

After the commercial break, Big Brother restores my faith in humanity and CBS did something good and responsible for once. It begins with Howard addressing that Aaryn has said some derogatory comments and it made him feel rather uncomfortable. At this point I am thinking okay at least they are showing someone talking about it and I was relatively pleased and was thinking that it was over from here. But wait, there’s more! They then show clips of pretty much ALL her comments and my life/night is now made better because everyone who watches Big Brother now knows, if they didn’t already, the terrible person that is Aaryn. At least the things she said anyways. This is a major turning point of the US version of Big Brother who is known for in the past editing these types of things out from the televised episodes. I don’t think anyone was expecting them to do this and for once Big Brother did to the viewers what they do to the houseguests, they lived up to their motto of expect the unexpected, and actually showed Aaryn  with her homophobic and racist comments for the world to see. THANK YOU CBS & BIG BROTHER!

After this moment of shock wore off, honestly it still hasn’t lol, I am still so proud of CBS for actually airing this, we get to see Aaryn’s nominations. As I expected her to do, she didn’t play strategically but played for “vengence” for her one week showmance with David and nominated Elissa, “the root of David’s eviction” and Helen, “by association”. Wow Aaryn, you said in your pre interviews that you wanted people to remember you and they will but not for being a good strategic player like you wanted.

Anyways I would love to hear everyone’s thoughts on the episode! Were you surprised that they addressed the racism and homophobia and actually aired it? Who do you think will be going home in Thursday’s episode? Let me know in the comments below. And follow me on Twitter, @sbauer17 :)
